As a rule of thumb, students are required to take the specific courses listed on the Scripps Website. However, follow the steps above for question 1, and keep in mind that for upper division electives, the faculty do try to tailor those courses to the student's major/academic background.
The study of data to extract meaningful insights. Data scientists utilize a combination of computer science, statistics, and mathematics to provide understanding of data from virtually any field.
Scripps data science students will take courses in calculus, linear algebra, statistics, computing, philosophy, and coding.
Majors in the Natural Sciences, Psychology, Math, and Economics offer a variety of upper division courses that are currently listed as data science upper division electives. Note that the data science minor is a minimum of 9 courses if students have not already taken Calc I and II.
